Organization’s Background

BEES was established in 1975
as Bogra Rural Development
Project (BRDP)
of the Christian
Reformed World Relief
Committee (CRWRC).

In 1984 BEES started
operation as an independent
organization after handed over
the responsibilities by CRWRC.

It is working in the field of development & eduction like adult education, functional education, literacy; post literacy, livelihood development, life skill development, income generating activities, human resource development, institution building, community based health program, reproductive health literacy, HIV/AIDS, microcredit, women empowerment, training etc. in 31 districts of Bangladesh.

Micro-finance Program

BEES started this program in 1989
with the financial assistance from
different financial institutions. Later
the program expanded it’s
collaboration in different districts of
the Bangladesh with the financial
assistance from Netherlands
Governments, PKSF and other
commercial banks to improve
livelihood of the target beneficiaries
through backing financial support to
them.

Health Program

Community based health program: In 1992 this prog was
initiated with the financial support of BPHC-DFID along with
Royal Netherlands Govt to deliver improved services i.e.
Reproductive Health, Family Planning, Child & General Health

National Nutrition Program: The aim of this program is to
develop and strengthen the capacity of communities to access
and analyze the causes of malnutrition and to make better use
of family, community & external resources to improve nutritional
status of vulnerable group

HIV/AIDS and STD prevention & control: Aim of this program is
to increase knowledge & dissemination prevention skill of
HIV/AIDS in community especially for Garment workers, Slum
dwellers and Hotel & Garden workers

Water and Sanitation

BEES conducted safe
drinking water and
small scale irrigation
activities in 1979-1982
at 10 upazilas of Bogra
district for installing
4600 HTWs with the
assistance of
Bangladesh Krishi
Bank.

BEES conducted 100% sanitation
Program in 2005-2007 in 3 upazilas of
Gaibandha district and installed 11672
hygienic latrines & 628 HTWs with the
help of GOB-WB through Social
Development Foundation (SDF)

BEES is conducting Water & Sanitation
activities from 2004 in 6 upazilas of
Faridpur, Madaripur & Gopalganj district
for installing 384 HTWs and 1273 Pit
Latrines in National Nutrition Program
(NNP) intervention areas with the
support of GOB-WB through NNP.

Through its WatSan
activities, after the
devastating cyclone in
1991in coastal belts
BEES successfully
performed rehabilitation
activities, which mainly
included building shelter
and ensuring safe water
and environmental
sanitation with the
financial assistance of the
World Relief Canada.

Since early nineties,
BEES has been
incorporating its
exclusive WatSan
activities with the
assistance of NGO
Forum

BEES has been
conducting the Water
and Sanitation services
through 4 Village Sanitation Centres

BEES conducted rural sanitation
activities in 1996-2007 at 83 upazilas
of 28 districts and established 9400
sanitary latrines with the help of NGO
Forum & DPHE

BEES provides the beneficiaries with
credit for tubewell installation and
setting up hygienic latrines

After receiving small support from
NGO Forum for the time being, now
the water and sanitation hardware
program is being sustained through
income generating activities under
Microfinance Program in 29 districts.

BEES purchased enough
arsenic test kits to identify the
arsenic contaminated tube
wells in the intervention areas.

BEES has tested the water of
hand-tubewells in the
intervention areas with its own
efforts, and the tubewells that
were found arsenic
contaminated were marked by
red color while the arsenic free
tubewells were marked by
green color.

Promotional activities such as
development of BCC materials,
courtyard meetings, rally along
with miking, film show, folk song,
seminar, workshop, doorstep
visits are being taken place
regularly to strengthen the
program implementation

To aware and motivate the
people, BEES has been using
communication materials such as
flip charts, stickers, posters,
flyers etc

It has published special issue of
its Bangla Newsletter "Mathchitra’
on water and sanitation.

Housing Program

BEES implemented
housing program at
Anwara upazila
which was cyclone
affected area of
Chittagong district
where we
constructed 256
houses to affected
families for their
shelter
arrangement.

The housing
program was
performed with
the support
from World
Relief Canada
through
CRWRC.

Rehabilitation Program

In 1991-92, BEES
performed food for
work in Bogra district
with 267.7 MT wheat
for reconstruction of
flood affected roads in
the rural areas with the
support from Canadian
Wheat Bank through
CRWRC

BEES implemented food for
work in Bogra district in 1992-
93 with 226 MT wheat for
repairing and maintenance of
flood affected roads with the
support from Canadian Wheat
Bank through CRWRC

In 1998, BEES implemented
food for work at B.Baria and
Bogra district with 500 MT
wheat for reconstruction of
flood affected rural roads with
the support from Canadian
Wheat Bank through CRWRC.

Agriculture & Social Forestry

BEES introduced this program since 1975
aiming to adopt sustainable agro-technology
for enhancing nutritional status and income
level of vulnerable group and to promote social
forestry to bring favorable ecological balance
in the environment.

Quality Education

Aiming to improve accessibility of the
people who are deprived from formal
schooling system and make nation literate
and self reliant, BEES incorporated

Social Investment Program Project

This program has been under taken in 2005 in
Gaibandha district in collaboration with Social
Development Foundation with the financial
support from GOB and WB to test and support
alternative services for poverty reduction by
way of increasing poor people access to small
scale social and economic infrastructure with
effective community participation.

Major six Service Package under Social Investment Program
Project includes followings-

Social Mobilization, Human Rights and Leadership Training
Advocacy Program on Health, Hygiene, Clean Water, Sanitation,
Education, Rights and Good Governance
Advocacy Program on Dowry and related issue i.e. Divorce, Wife
beating, Polygamy, Committed suicide, Trafficking, Acid
Violence etc.
Occupational Skill Development Training
Legal Aid Services (Alternative Dispute Resolution)
Assistance to Tribal Population

Training

• BEES is continuously providing training
to its staff so that they are well-groomed
to perform well.
• BEES has a well-equipped training cell to
organize training courses with due
importance to the needs of its staff as
well as its group members.
• BEES developed and formulated need
based training modules, curricula and
other training materials and tools to
conduct different types of training
courses.
• Training courses are planned, designed
and arranged as per need and priority.

Research, Evaluation & Monitoring

• BEES has been conducting Research,
Monitoring and Evaluation activities to explore
and review the progress of project for attaining
the project goal all along

• BEES instituted the Research, Monitoring and
Evaluation (REM) as formal cell in 1997.

• REM cell is involved in various development
aspects including poverty alleviation, socioeconomic
development, agriculture, nutrition,
heath, Water and Sanitation, education,
environment, gender and related fields.

Regular involvement includes following
• Conduct research / study on socio-economic &
demographic aspects
• Conduct base line survey on different issues ( for
new intervention & area expansion etc)
• Carry on monitoring activity as per plan
• Prepare semi and annual progress activity report
• Conduct & develop case study regarding the
successful beneficiaries .
• Share study findings and field experience with
concern person for further improvement
• Impact assessment
• Conduct mid term evaluation.

Gender & Rights

  • Gender & Rights cell was established in 2006 to enhance and
    establish gender equality and support the existing programs as a cross cutting issue
    to mainstream gender in the organization

  • BEES initiated this cell with the objective to increase social
    awareness on gender related issues and to extend the social,
    financial and legal support to its group members to establish
    women’s rights.

  • It organizes different supporting programs on gender
    awareness and sensitization through internal training,
    orientation, workshop and advocacy program.
